-----
Set in the natural amphitheatre of Coolum and attracting some the most powerful swells on the Sunshine Coast, Coolum is the perfect bodysurfing competition venue. Timed to coincide with the peak swell window of March (weekend of 20th), Australia’s best bodysurfers will bring an exceptional display of skill and style to the Coolum coast.
* This is an age handicap event
While the beachside presents perfect ringside viewing of the event, the competition will also be immortalised with land and water photography and drone video footage.
At 7am on the morning following the Coolum Wedge (Sunday), a one-off State of Origin Team Event will be held. Teams from NSW and QLD will consist of two Open, one Master, One Tribal Elder and one Women competitor - selections for each team will be made based on the highest placing competitors from the Coolum Wedge competition that wish to take part and based upon their state of domicile.
The event will be tag-team format and 40 minutes in total duration. Each team has one competitor in the water at any one time. The competitor can catch multiple waves, but only the last wave ridden by that competitor will be scored. Upon surfing their scoring wave, the competitor exits the surf and runs back to the marshalling area to tag his next team member who runs to the surf and completes their wave and so forth.
Team members’ waves will only be scored when they re-enter the marshalling area with only those team members who have completed their scoring waves and returned to the marshalling area within the allotted 40 minutes being scored. The highest total team score wins the event.
At the end of the event, all the public and competitors are invited back into the surf for a group session. Whomp with your heroes!
If you have a question about the competition, please drop us a note and someone from the Coolum Wedge Organisation Committee will get back to you asap.
