Noosa Festival of Surfing

Garage Handplanes Body Bash 2016

The Garage Handplanes Body Bash was one of the first events to kick-off this year’s Noosa Festival of Surfing. In less than ideal conditions, the Body Bash event has now been run and won with the current Bodysurfing World Champion Tom Marr taking out the title for the second year in a row.

It was fantastic to see so many people traveling to participate. There was a good showing from the local froth monsters, as well as many interstate and international bodysurfers who all congregated to share the stoke with key call outs to Kate and Carol from the USA, Todd from Indo/NZ/New York, and Rod from Victoria.

The challenging conditions meant competitors had to work harder to get noticed, with many innovative manoeuvres being tested and then perfected throughout the weekend. Halfway through the final, a massive rain squall came through just to add insult to injury! All finalists put on a good show and spirits were high. I think I even saw an ‘assisted’ take-off, showing again the extraordinary spirit that exists in the community.

It truly is such a testament to the bodysurfing community, when even in a competitive environment, everyone was laughing and cheering each other on.

The official placings after the event were:

  • 1st Place: Tom Marr
  • 2nd Place: Jacob Rosenbrock
  • 3rd Place: Paul Khodor
  • 4th Place: Jae Marr
  • 5th Place: David Archer
  • 6th Place: Phil Gabel
